Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist
&
Psychodynamic Counsellor

Welcome

I am a qualified Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist and experienced Psychodynamic Counsellor working in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
I initially trained as a psychodynamic counsellor with Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) before undertaking more in depth training with the Analytical Psychotherapy Training: Birmingham (APT) at West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy (WMIP).

PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COUNSELLING

Psychodynamic counselling is a talking therapy rooted in psychoanalysis that explores how unconscious thoughts, repressed memories, and early childhood experiences shape current behaviour, emotions, and relationships. It usually takes place once weekly on the same day and time each week. I aim to provide a safe space for you to talk freely without censorship, where we can begin to shed light on what brings you to therapy now, and how this may be related to your past experiences. This is often brought about by a particular event such as a bereavement, the ending of a relationship or by having a general lack of direction in your life.Jungian analytic psychotherapists are trained to work with their patient up to three times a week, usually with the patient on a couch. This can help to facilitate deep change for longer standing issues that cause emotional distress. You may not know why you are behaving or feeling a particular way. Together we can find the words for your experience to become known about, within the safety of a therapeutic relationship with firm boundaries. By redirecting feelings from past relationships onto the therapist through the transference, working with dreams, along with what is happening in your present circumstances, it can be possible to make lasting change. Analytic psychotherapy is principally led by you to help you understand yourself, your life and your actions in a deep, reflective way. Those defensive mechanisms you may have been using have probably been very necessary and, at the same time, may not always be helpful when it comes to relationships.
I particularly work with people who would like to have a deeper understanding of themselves with a desire to discover their full potential. This includes those suffering from depression, chronic low mood, suicidal thoughts and or self-harm, unresolved childhood trauma and complex relational difficulties.

FEES

My fee for once weekly work is £65 for a 50 minute session and may be a little less for more frequent work. I hold the session time and space for each individual which means I do charge for missed and cancelled sessions. I do not charge if I am not working.
For those on a low income I will consider offering a lower fee, and this will always be explored fully with you.

Contact

Contact can be made via email or phone using the details below. I aim to respond within 2-3 days.
We can then arrange an intial consultation to discuss what has led you to get in touch as well as your hopes and expectations of therapy.
We will also discuss the frequency of sessions. A higher frequency can be helpful when working through longer lasting or particularly distressing areas of difficulty.
